Issued 2 January 1902 (effective circulation from 1903) by Österreichisch-ungarische Bank (Austro-Hungarian Bank) in Wien (Vienna) and Budapest; part of 1900–1902 series for the dual monarchy. Printed on paper. Size approx. 191 × 127 mm (large format). Main colors: blue/green/multicolor underprint.

Obverse: Portrait of allegorical woman (with wreath/flowers in hair) at right, central coat of arms of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, German text “TAUSEND KRONEN” / “OESTERREICHISCH-UNGARISCHE BANK”, “WIEN 2. JÄNNER 1902”, value indicators in eight minority languages of the empire.
Reverse: Similar woman portrait at right, middle coat of arms of Hungary at center, Hungarian text and legends.
Features: Running serial numbers; no security thread; watermark not prominently reported.
Overprint variant: Some notes overprinted in red “DEUTSCHÖSTERREICH” (German-Austria) in 1919 after empire’s collapse (post-WWI, for use in new Republic of German-Austria; Pick# 59/60/61 variants). Withdrawn (by 1920s, replaced by Austrian Schilling and Hungarian Pengő); not legal tender – iconic bilingual collectible from late Austro-Hungarian Empire.
