Description

Issued January 1938 (dated 1937) by Gosbank (State Bank of the USSR); part of 1937 chervonets series (1, 3, 5, 10 chervontsev) – the first Soviet banknotes to feature Lenin’s portrait. Printed on paper by Goznak. Size approx. 180–181 × 90–91 mm. Main color: dark olive-green/multicolor.

  • Obverse: USSR State Emblem (1936 version with 11 ribbons) upper left, value “5” rosette center left, portrait of V.I. Lenin (profile, facing right) at right, text “Билет Государственного Банка Союза ССР” / “ПЯТЬ ЧЕРВОНЦЕВ” (Five Chervontsev), backing promise “БАНКОВСКИЕ БИЛЕТЫ ОБЕСПЕЧИВАЮТСЯ ЗОЛОТОМ, ДРАГОЦЕННЫМИ МЕТАЛЛАМИ И ПРОЧИМИ АКТИВАМИ ГОСУДАРСТВЕННОГО БАНКА”.
