- Obverse: Portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-sen (left or center), bank name at top, denomination “1 Yuan / National Currency”, ornate designs/vessel, “SHANGHAI”.
- Reverse: Avenue and red pai fang (gateway/arch) to Confucius Temple/Tomb (Kong Family Cemetery, Qufu), denomination “ONE YUAN”, promise “THE CENTRAL BANK OF CHINA PROMISES TO PAY THE BEARER ON DEMAND…”, signatures (e.g., General Manager / Governor).
