Description

Issued AH 1277 Year 4 (corresponding to ~1863–1864 CE) during the reign of Sultan Abdul Aziz (r. AH 1277–1293 / 1861–1876), as part of Ottoman Egypt’s reformed bronze coinage series. Struck at the Paris Mint (despite reverse legend “ضرب في مصر” indicating Egypt/Misr mint name, common for outsourced production in early Abdul Aziz years due to modern minting needs). Composition: bronze (copper alloy). Size approx. 30–35 mm diameter (similar to related 20/40 para issues).

  • Obverse: Toughra (calligraphic signature) of Sultan Abdul Aziz, abbreviated denomination “پ ٣٠” (P for Para, 30).
  • Reverse: Regnal year “٤” (Year 4 of reign), mint/date “ضرب في مصر ١٢٧٧” (Struck in Egypt 1277), plain edge.
  • Features: Milled edge; no security features; varieties may include presence/absence of small symbols (e.g., flower near toughra on some denominations). Demonetized long ago; not legal tender – vintage collectible from Ottoman Egypt’s monetary modernization under Abdul Aziz.
