Issued 1963–1982 (various dates, AH equivalents) by Banque Centrale de Syrie (Central Bank of Syria). Printed on paper (printer often TDLR or JEZ variants). Size approx. 130 × 65 mm. Main color: brown/multicolor.

  • Obverse: Man operating machinery/factory worker at right, bank name in Arabic, denomination “١ ليرة سورية” (1 Syrian Pound), ornate guilloche patterns.
  • Reverse: Wheel of Hama (Noria, historic wooden water-raising wheel) on the Orontes River at center, denomination “ONE POUND”, bank name in English, promise text.
  • Features: Running serial numbers; watermark: Arabian horse head; some varieties with security thread (later sub-types). Withdrawn; not legal tender. As of 2026, Syria has begun exchanging older banknotes (post-Assad era redenomination/removal of two zeros and new designs) to stabilize the currency, rendering these 1963–1982 notes primarily collectible.
